Beans and Corn in the Eastern North Dakota area received frost damage. Time will tell on bushels lost.

Alfalfa » Future for alfalfa acres
Seth Hoyt, a former USDA/NASS analyst, predicts that in California, alfalfa will be down 25,000 acres in 2009. Do you see this trend in your area, or do you feel alfalfa acres will remain steady?

Cotton » Drought
Cotton in Oklahoma burned up this summer. 90% of my dryland acres won't pay to harvest. Faced with difficult or impossible defoliation choices on few acres that may harvest. Irrigated double crop cotton looks outstanding where we had fairly good water.

Rice » Shift back to rice?
Yes, rice taking some "clay" bean acres, beans and cotton taking some corn acres. Looks like corn will be 25-50% down, going into corn and some cotton. Year to year profits are catching the rice increase.

Some industry experts predict a rise in sunflower acres in 2009, saying that improved profitability means more growers might switch to sunflowers this year. What are you hearing from producers in your area?
